The 2008 INEX Rulebook highly recommends the use of the roll bar padding. There are many different types, styles and colors of padding on the market today. However, some types are rated for "impact protection" and others are not.

When installing roll bar padding in your car, it is recommended that you put padding on all roll bars within reach of the driver. It is very important to install "impact protection" padding in areas where the driver's head may come in contact with the bar. Some of the padding not specifically "impact rated" may protect hands, arms, ect. However, "non-impact rated" padding is not effective for helmet impacts.
