More Than 70 Cars Registered For Bandolero & Young Lions Nationals




SPARTA, Ky. - More than 70 cars are pre-registered for the 10th Annual Bandolero and Young Lions Nationals. The event, scheduled for Sept. 2 at Kentucky Speedway, is expected to draw 100 of the best Bandolero and Young Lions Legends drivers from across the country.

Seventeen states are currently represented with North Carolina leading the entries with 17. Georgia is second with 12 entries, and Texas follows with 10.

Georgia and Texas each have five cars entered in the Bandolero Bandits division. Bandits national point leader Dillon Bassett is registered to compete. Stephen Bergh, Jr., who finished fifth last year, is the only returning top-five finisher in the class. Other top runners include Georgians Davey Matthews and Mason Massey.

Last year's Bandits winner, Ronnie Bassett, Jr., enters the Young Guns field as the national point leader. Bassett, Jr. is one of four North Carolinians registered for the Young Guns division. Kentucky and Ohio also has four driver entered. North Carolina hot shoe Ryan Glenski returns for the event after finishing second in 2006. Bassett and Glenski have raced each other all season with Bassett winning the 2007 Summer Shootout Young Guns on the final night.

North Carolina native Kendall Sellers has been the class of the Bandolero Outlaws field during most of 2007. Sellers already has 16 victories to his credit this year, and is looking to add the Bandolero Nationals trophy to his collection. Tennessee driver Chris McKinney is one of the only drivers to keep pace with Sellers this season, and he considers Kentucky Speedway his home track. Nathan Rodgers will be another to watch when the Outlaws hit the track.

The Young Lions field is North Carolina heavy with nine Tar Heel state drivers entered to compete in the event for Legends Car drivers age 12-16. North Carolina's Kyle Pierce, 15, is fresh off winning the 2007 Young Lions Summer Shootout championship. Parker Hammons, Jordan Penninger, Landon Bullock and Daniel Hemric are also registered to compete.

The event will also feature regular races for KOIL Tour Masters and Pro Legends drivers. A full points day of KOIL Tour racing will take place Saturday, Sept. 1. Registration for the event will open Friday, Aug. 31 at 12 pm local time with safety inspection opening at 2.
