SALISBURY, N.C. - Legends driver Christopher M. Blossom, 32, was killed in a single passenger vehicle accident on Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County, Va. May 11.
Blossom, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his pickup when it ran off the right side of the interstate, through a guardrail and overturned about 9:30 am. He died at the scene.
Blossom, originally from Wellsville, N.Y., had lived in Salisbury, N.C. for the past year and half. He began racing Legends Cars at the Winter Heat Series at Lowe's Motor Speedway in December 2006. He was a Semi-Pro regular at Concord Motorsport Park this season as part of the Boss Construction Legends Team . He also served in the United States Army for nine years and was part of Operation Desert Storm.
Blossom enjoyed hunting, fishing, kayaking, go-karts and racing Legends cars. The joy of his life was time spent with his children. He was a loving, caring father and friend.
He is survived by his two children: son Aaren and daughter, Kayla; his father Harry Blossom; mother Deborah Jones; three sisters, Melonie and Brandy Blossom, and Jennifer Hunt; three brothers, David and Robert Jones and Anthony Blossom; and grandfathers, Ronald Denning, Sr. and Ray Decker.
Funeral services are scheduled for May 16 at Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Angelica, N.Y. with Rev. Ernest Tracy officiating. Interment will take place at Until the Day Dawn Cemetery. A memorial service is planned in North Carolina for Sunday, May 20 at Franklin Baptist Church, 3810 Hwy 601, Salisbury at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, a trust for his children is being set up at Franklin Baptist Church.
