INDIANAPOLIS - The return of RACEceiver Legends Car and Bandoleros to the Indianapolis Speedrome was hugely successful Saturday night, April 21.
Almost 50 Legends and Bandoleros were on hand for their first race back at the Indianapolis track. It was the first of eight appearances by the drivers from the KOIL Tour.
"It has been a long time since the KOIL Tour raced at the Speedrome," said KOIL Tour promoter James Michael Spink. "We're pleased to be back as evident from the large car count here this evening. This track is perfect for both Legends and Bandoleros, and we look forward to a long relationship with Joel and his entire staff at the Speedrome."
The KOIL Tour cars joined a record 153 cars including late models, stocks, roadrunners and hornets.
The KOIL RACEceiver Legends tour presented by Last Chance Towing saw Scott Menlen set quick time in qualifying with a 13.999 second lap. Adam Roberts, Billy Heil III, and Jason Ross won their respective Legends heats with Chris Weddle taking the semi-feature event.
Jason Powers made all the right moves en route to victory in the competitive 35-lap feature. It was Powers's first main event victory. He held off a strong charge by Adam Roberts and Tony Steffen. Former track champion Rodney Smith and Byron Stowe rounded out the top five.
Christopher McKinney kicked off the Bandolero activities with a new track record in qualifying. His lap of 14.182 seconds eclipsed the previous record set in 2000. Dustin Sword and McKinney won their heats.
McKinney wouldn't be denied the sweep of all his races, setting the pace for the 18-car field and never losing the lead. Justin Campbell was second with Cody Lane third, Sword and Brock Morris following.
