INEX officials announced today the procurement of a title sponsor for the 2007 King of the Ovals Thunder Roadster series.
Kevin Powell's Foothill Ford will be the official car and truck dealer of the King of the Ovals series in 2007. The dealership is located in Pilot Mountain, N.C. Foothill Ford specializes in heavy-duty Ford trucks, specifically trucks ideal for towing.
"We are very excited to welcome Kevin Powell's Foothill Ford to the King of the Ovals Thunder Roadster Series," said Darrel Krentz, executive director of INEX. "Kevin is a racer himself, and loves the INEX program. His support will be a big boost for the series. Foothill Ford is a great hometown dealership, and we encourage all our drivers to visit Foothill Ford for their new vehicles."
The King of the Ovals is a 13-race series throughout the Southeast for the Thunder Roadsters, an open cockpit spec racers modeled after the 1960s Watson Roadsters. The series is scheduled to visit seven different tracks in four states during the 2007 season including a July 28 event at the half-mile Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.
"I just love racing," Powell said. "My son races in the Bandolero division, and I've raced with Darrel Krentz on the modified circuit. When he approached me about the sponsorship, I thought it would be a great fit with our business."
Powell races modifieds at various tracks around the Southeast including Friendship Speedway in Elkin, N.C., and on the NASCAR Whelen All American Series tour. His son, Spencer, races a Bandolero in INEX competition. Powell will race in a few selected events on the King of the Ovals Series during the 2007 season.
"I haven't sat in a Thunder Roadster, yet, but everyone says they are so much fun," Powell said. "I have raced a late model and a modified at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, but I have never been able to race at Bristol. With the Thunder Roadster, I am getting the opportunity to race at Bristol."
The sponsorship agreement includes a points fund for the King of the Oval Series and an official pace car.
